Google maps food option

All places shown under restaurant, cafe are pretty expensive.. They are not budget ... every place that shows up is place, where I need to order dal separately, rice separately... 70+ Rs for dal, the bele-kattu in Kannada.. Not my type..
Darshini's, the place unique to bengaluru almost don't pop-up in Google maps..

Indira canteen

Indira canteen is Karnataka state government’s initiative to provide subsidized food 5 Rs which is around 10 cents for breakfast, 10 Rs aka 20 cents for lunch & dinner each.

Bengaluru city corporation(bbmp) is tasked to do this.
Anybody is free to pay & eat, so there is no targeting for needy/poor/low income folks.

As with most services in our country, cost is the key selling point in Indira canteen, neither service not quality.

Modeled around similar initiative in neighboring Tamil Nadu state, Indira canteens are backed by the might of state, almost as a prestige issue.

A dedicated IAS officer (Manoj Ranjan) was tasked with all related tasks, facilities to prepare food, transport it, serving it, cleaning utensils, tabulating…..

Priority was given to open on Indian  independence day, by the big wigs of ruling party.

What’s charged for service is no where enough to provide the food-service.

Govt will bear the loss, which could be nearly double the cost being charged.

In essence, govt loses money each time a plate of food is served.

Govt is now competing with catering & restaurant businesses, in the garb of feeding the needy (govt’s word is urban poor, no more hungry bellies… )

Irony is

the quantity being served is strictly limited to less than needs of an adult

Total no of plates that’ll be served in a day is limited. (300 plates per session, 900 in a day)

Operation hours are 2 hours per feeding session.

All these limitations are due to the urge to feed at 5&10 Rs cost.

Govt had set the budget for current financial year at 100 crores. This amount will not be enough, looking at the way, eaters are jumping in.

Bbmp is competing with hotels & success of Indira canteen will lead to reduction of tax income from hotels.

Delicious irony or shooting itself in the feet.. Time will decide. Till then, from Bengaluru

Welcome to jan dhan troubles

Jan dhan account, the crown jewel of current administration... Is certainly not what it is shown up as.
My experience with it goes below:
Cash deposit can be done at home branch only
Any change in any of communication details(phone no. In this case) needs address proof (preferably aadhaar xerox)
Getting statement in passbook needs cross checks from teller, then passbook printing person.
Safety feature of transaction limit per year is 50,000 rupees. This will come to haunt you, if you place any spare cash here.
Person who prints passbook eats pretty heavy breakfast between 10:00 to 11:00. (Happened on 21 & 22 Aug 2017) you gotta wait. Welcome to India's most trusted bank.
One function is handled by only one person, others will be busy with mobile phone (2 guys busy with forwarding WhatsApp messages about ... Of all people Melanie Trump, other with tinder...) But won't chip in.
HDFC Bank, Ramamurthy nagara branch, Bengaluru.

Our prime ministers

Just had this conversation how many of our prime ministers have been having experience from ground up

I mean from City Corporation 10 state and country come to think of it PV Narasimha Rao might be the only one who had experience in running estate Nehru Indira Gandhi Rajiv Gandhi and Manmohan Singh howell country without running state Atal Bihari Vajpayee devegowda Morarji Desai and Narendra Modi did Run States before becoming Prime Minister in fact Morarji devegowda did have experience that was quite long compared to the rest I am not considering Chaudhary Charan Singh I K Gujral and Lal Bahadur Shastri for their 10 years weightless this seems to be in capacity or shortcoming in the Prime Minister's experience come to think of it it is best that the Prime Minister handles minimal affairs or rather the union government itself handles minimal affairs se defence Foreign Affairs living States to run or still the economy this handicapped came to 4 when I saw the Bangalore we are standing in front of the new canteen to be unveiled by end of June 2017 I just had thought shouldn't you have experience running at Bangalore before running the state Karnataka how come we don't take this qualification before electing someone for that matter as a Prime Minister also so many people running for people in contention for Chief Minister post must have some experience in administration modifying the current way in which we select chief ministers seems to be at people have no say in who we can sit ups it is the MLS who decide who should be chief minister all it takes is a numerical majority not anything else amending rules is a long shot simple reason being unless the crisis presents itself changes are hard to come by even tougher changes to be accepted and followed

Remember the first phase of reforms introduced only when there was a big crisis like Balance of payments and it took a grounded up Prime Minister PV Narasimha Rao reforms face to mai how to get for both a big crisis underground of prime minister Namo is not going to do this if you are the best parties all these draughts all these words rather not rocks I spelt out putting the phone into read mode I like this just now and

Farm loan waiver ....

All this talk on waiving loans of farmer community is do misguided.

There's a long list of steps being doing explicitly for farming community, not farmers.

Firms that are into farming area enjoy subsidy. Fertilizer, seeds, tractor, they all get subsidy.

Farmers themselves get loans for buying tractors, seeds, ...

Problem is always price drop....
Prices are function of markets... So market failure is the problem..

Governments, by definition cannot fix this market failure problem by activist intervention..

Ramnath kovind for prez need not be surprise

Ramnath Kovind, governer of Bihar is the BJP's nominee for president of Indian republic. Shivasena hasn't given it's nod. NDA hasn't had a meeting.. So Sri Kovind isn't yet NDA candidate.

I'm surprised with the narrative in English & kannada newspapers, TV...
Modi & Shah have sprang a surprise again.

It is lazy journalism.

Couldn't they have list out all BJP folks at prominent posts?
Draupadi Murmu is Odisha governer. Her name was in the running..
There are other governers too.

Just a list of 20 governers would have wrapped the job.
There's justice sadashivam, Kerala
Vajubhai vala, Karnataka..
Padmanabha Acharya, Vidya Sagar Rao,.. Well...

Reading a book on second world war.. Chilling

We who are born after 1945, are lucky.
I'm reading a book about second world war.

It is chilling narrative of events...
Hitler gaining power, chemberlaine's politics, Russian might, fear of Russia annexing India & the great game between Russia & Britain...

What surprises me is India was much more open to world as such.

These days in 2017, we're bothered only about few countries
USA,Russia, Germany, France, Britain, Japan....

India in 1930,40 was much more connected with world...

India has become more inward looking

Optimism pessimism

From that motherland of goodness, manliness & greatness, art of manliness website

Ebook resiliency

Me/Not Me •  Always/Not Always •  Everything/Not Everything: “A  ‘Me,  Always,  Everything’ person automatically,  reflexively believes that he caused the problem (me),  that it is lasting and unchangeable (always), and  that  it  will  undermine  all  aspects  of  his  life  (everything). When problems arise,  a  “Not Me,  Not Always,  Not Everything person  believes  that  other  people  or  circumstances  caused  the  problem (not  me),  that  it  is  fleeting  and  changeable  (not  always),  and  that  it will not affect much of his life (not everything).” For obvious reasons,  studies have shown that those with a  “Not Me,  Not Always,  Not Everything”  explanatory style are the most optimistic,  while those with a  “Me,  Always,  Everything”  explanatory style are prone to pessimism and depression.  Once MAE’s fail at something,  they are susceptible to experiencing  “learned helplessness”  for a long time and across many areas of their life. T he  effect  of  your  explanatory  style  not  just  on  your  resiliency  but  on your whole life cannot be overstated. Those with a pessimistic, “Me, Always, Everything”  explanatory style are more prone to depression,  anxiety,  low self-esteem,  and paralyzing inertia in the face of setbacks.  Those with an optimistic,  Not Me,  Not Always,  Not Everything style,  on the other hand, experience improved health and happiness and significantly more success in the workplace,  at school,  and on the playing field.

Is ISRO part of the new Outsourcing wave?

http://www.rediff.com/news/report/isro-makes-history-launches-104-satellites-in-one-go/20170215.htm

We have launched 226 satellites out of which 179 are from foreign nations."
With a total payload of 1378 kgs, ISRO opted for the most powerful XL variant of the PSLV for the 16th time in Wednesday's mission. It had earlier been used in the 'Chandrayaan' and the Mars Orbiter Mission among others.

Break-up of the satellites
>> Cartosat-2 Satellite - India
>> 88 Dove satellites - USA
>> 8 Lemur satellites – USA
>> BGUSat – Israel
>> 1 Al-Farabi – Kazakhstan
>> PEASSS – The Netherlands
>> 2 DIDO – Switzerland
>> 1 Nayif - UAE

Out of 104, 102 were external/private Satellutes, who used ISRO for either low cost or ease of use.
This says a thing.
ISRO is now cheap & fast option to launch into Space.
There goes the decades of investment by Tax Payer to serve the World at large.
